Two local governments in Katsina State have recorded some level of non-compliance and resistance to the on-going immunisation exercise, the Commissioner for Health, Mariyatu Bala Usma, said.
Speaking at a workshop on immunisation, maternal and child health for socio economic development, she gave the names of the areas as Katsina Local Government and Funtua Local Government.
She said the non-compliance in the two councils was due to poor understanding of the importance of immunisation.
Represented by the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Aliu Ma’awuya, she said the misunderstanding was as a result of misconception of the position of Islam on the issue.
She said the non-compliance was recorded among the elites and some religious groups, adding that concerted efforts are being adopted to bring everyone on board.
In his remarks, the representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) Adamu Isa said Katsina had recorded tremendous success on the fight against polio and other child killer diseases and that it must be sustained.
