The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Zamfara State has made a fresh demand for N18,000 minimum wage, promotion arrears and annual increment of workers’ salaries.
The state NLC chairman, Comrade Bashir Mafara, said at a news conference in Gusau yesterday that the state government must implement the new salary structure to enable workers survive the current economic realities.
“Workers in the state elected us into the position of leadership because of the confidence they have in us. We have discussed with the state government on the new salary structure because we are determined to achieve the desired results through peaceful means”, he said.
Mafara appealed to workers to exercise patience, especially on the issue of taxes, saying confrontation should be the last option.
“The issue pressing labour today is very critical. Government has paid N1 billion pension arrears.  The NLC and TUC met with the state Ministry of Finance over the payment of promotion arrears and annual increments. After the planned biometric data capturing of workers, all entitlements will be settled,” he added.
