Kaduna State government has launched the Beekeeping Extension Society, an initiative supported by the government of Australia.
The programme, which took place in Dogon-Daji, Kagarko Local Government Area, had the theme: “Introducing Youth to Modern Honey Production Practices.”
Speaking at the occasion, the Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Jon Richardson, disclosed that Australia has supported projects worth N110 million in Nigeria through assistance to organisations in the last one year.
Represented by Mrs. Latonia Mpamugo, the Administrative/Consular Officer, Richardson said the programme was funded by the Australian High Commission, through a Zaria-based NGO, Beekeeping Extension Society, adding that the support was meant to build a better future for youths in the country.
In his speech, Governor Nasiru el-Rufa’i of Kaduna State lauded the efforts of the Australian government as well as the Beekeeping Extension Society for introducing the beekeeper with modern technique.
The governor, represented by Mr Christopher Bitrus, the deputy director, fisheries in the state’s ministry of agriculture, assured that agriculture would be given pride of place in his administration.
