The newly elected president of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Comrade Usman Y. Dutse has promised to tackle the problems facing polytechnics, especially poor funding.
He stated this at the 13th National Delegate Conference of the association at Bida, Niger State, recently.
He said that his government would ensure that the problem of poor funding affecting most polytechnics in the nation came to an end.
He said that a bill has been promulgated to tackle the issue of poor funding and address the issue of dichotomy between Bsc (degree) and HND (higher national diploma) holders.
The outgoing president of ASUP, Comrade Chibuzor Asomugha, said polytechnics in the country were not given the required attention they deserved, adding that polytechnics lacked equipment needed to facilitate teaching.
