Peer group pressure and the social media negatively influence student behaviour in schools, a sociology student has said.
The student said that moral decadence among the youths is mainly the result of peer groups’ influence, especially in post-primary schools and tertiary institutions.
He said that students’ achievements in schools are shaped by many factors, including friends and social media, which, he said, also contribute to the level of violence and erosion of family values. Violent crimes such as armed robberies and kidnappings could be linked to the mass media, he argued.
The student said indecent appearance, which characterises the dress codes of most female students, was learned through the publication of indecent images on the social media.  
 He opined that violent and aggressive behaviours may arise as a result of watching movies, calling on parents to check the behaviour of their children.
