Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, have donated blood to needy patients.
The donations were made at the blood bank of the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) during a medical awareness campaign in the school.
The students responded to the call made by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Centre, Bida, and NBTS for the donation of blood, in order to save lives.
The programme, which lasted for five days, saw hundreds of students scrambling to donate blood to the bank.     
The Phlebotomist of the NBTS, Mr Uba Samson, said that the students were earlier screened before they donated their blood.
He said that the development was informed by the high demand for blood, stressing the need to step up campaigns at higher institutions to meet the blood requirement of the nation.
He stated that blood donation was voluntary.
Samson said that some students felt disappointed when they were disqualified from donating their blood.
He said that frequent donation of blood enabled one to live a healthy life and lead to development of new cells in the body.
Musa Abdullahi, an ND1 student of accountancy, said he was happy to donate blood to patients in need of blood.
Also, Gloria David, an HND2 student of mass communication, said: “I am not happy for not donating because of my excessive weight loss.”
