Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education Nigeria (SSUCOEN) has rejected privatization of their demonstration secondary schools, saying they are relevant in training student-teachers in primary and early childhood education.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s meeting in Abeokuta signed by its president, Patricia Ngozi Amadi and secretary Ajayi Oluwole, the staff asked for exemption of the Colleges from the Single Treasury Account (TSA) policy as it will hamper the running of the schools, asking that their demonstration schools should not be privatized. They called on the federal government to expedite action on payment of promotion and migration arrears which they said is long overdue and to call attention of some state governments that have not implemented the 65 years retirement age for staff of states colleges on the need to do so.  They congratulated the new minister of education, Adamu Adamu and urged him to bring about the desired change in the education sector.
The union also called for improvement in the funding of education.
