Sokoto to demystify mathematics

The Sokoto State Government is collaborating with the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) to make students receptive to mathematics.
The government said it would ensure that students developed positive attitude towards mathematics.
Speaking recently, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr.Muhammadu Jabi Kilgori, said: “We want to demystify mathematics so that our children will learn it with ease, apply it and use it.”
He stated this during two-week training on mental mathematics, organised for secondary schools’ students in the state, in Sokoto. “Through this initiative, this partnership with the national mathematics centre, we are going to build up a resource base.
The teachers would appreciate and comprehend the methodology and the mechanism of teaching mathematics.
“We would use them as resources persons, work in collaboration with the centre to make sure that every child in the state is able to be tutored and able to appreciate that mathematics is not a rocket science.”
In a remark, an official of the centre, Muhammad Musa, said that they would assist students in Sokoto switch on to mathematics.
