Man arrested over extortion of cyclists at Dutse

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Dutse for allegedly extorting the sum of N9,000 from two commercial motorcyclists in Dutse, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The suspect, Sunday Eze, was said to have extorted the sum of N5, 000 and N4, 000 respectively from the victims, under the guise that he would connect them to a senior ranking police officer.
City News gathered from a police source that the suspect, who claimed to be a footballer, conspired with one Abdulazeez to assist the victims get back their motorcycles impounded by the police following an accident that led to setting a vehicle on fire.
“The suspect asked for the fee from their victims under the pretext that it was demanded by the police as a condition for the release of their motorcycles,” the source added.
According to the source, the suspect had already collected the money from their victims before he was exposed by one of them, who overheard the directive by the Dutse DPO, CSP Aisha Yusuf to release their motorcycles unconditionally.
The source said the suspect was immediately arrested by the police, together with his accomplice.
When contacted, Dutse DPO confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects would soon be charged to court.
