If there is anyone who can question the rate at which President Muhammadu Buhari is jetting about the world, then it is this writer, a self-confessed fan. So I’ll say the response of the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, does not hold water. The president was massively voted because of his antecedent as a forthright and incorruptible person, who is thought to be able to correct the wrongs done to this country in the last sixteen years. Therefore, it is quite ill-advised for one who benefits from such trips to play with the sensibilities of the people, adducing flimsy excuses.
The country is now facing a lot of challenges, such as the issue of insurgency, economic downturn and the crippling fuel crisis, which all need full attention of the president. Anyone who has any respect for the president, anyone who cast his  or her vote for him during the elections, should express concern on the dimensions which the foreign trips are taking. He has visited way more than 10 countries without paying one to even five states in the nation. Anyone who does not tell him the naked truth at this moment, then he or she has a sinister motive.
President Buhari ought to know that the overwhelming support he got during the elections, especially from the down-trodden, is anchored on the belief that he will save our dear country. It is therefore on him to stay put and tackle the problems confronting the people. Before I am judged harshly, I need to point out that every Nigerian, irrespective of social status, who voted for him has a right to caution him to minimise his globe-trotting, and stay to face the stark reality confronting us.
It is clear that President Buhari offended diehard supporters like Hajiya Aisha-Yusuf, who writes Another Dimension for Daily Trust on Saturday, as well as Dele Momudu of ThisDay newspaper, both of whom lamented on the issue. So it is imperative that the president knows that while we didn’t vote for him to travel around the world, we’re rooting for him to succeed. After all, we have absolute confidence that he will take this country to the promised heights.
