The National Film Institute (NFI) Jos, Plateau State, celebrated its 20th anniversary last Saturday at an annual interactive forum with discussions on infrastructure and expanded academic programmes.
The event which took place at NFI’s main auditorium had the theme: ‘Opportunity in Film Training and Capacity Building.’
Chairman of NFI’s governing council and Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Dr. Danjuma Dadu, said the provision of the critical infrastructure, physical development and the expansion of the academic programmes were intended to bridge the gap between film and other media arts courses, according to a press statement from the institution.
“The furnishing and equipping of the ultra-sound stage of the Institute which is to commence soon, is intended to add up to existing training and film production facilities to cater for envisaged increase in the number of candidates seeking admission into the Institute,” Dadu said.
“The planned restoration of hostel accommodation, ahead of the completion of those at the permanent site of the Institute at Lamingo, was to address the challenges faced by the students, seeking accommodation in Jos,” the statement quoted him as adding.
Dadu announced that the NFI’s expanded academic programmes, will begin with the introduction of other media arts courses and the start of the post graduate diploma in film studies.
