The Nigeria Association of Motor Dealers has reiterated its readiness to participate in dealership of brand new cars being manufactured in Nigeria.
President of the association’s interim management committee Ibrahim Mohammed Bello made the call over the weekend after a National Executive Council meeting of the association in Abuja, where he urged the federal government to ensure that Ajaokuta Steel Complex in Kogi State produces made in Nigeria vehicles.
Bello, who said the meeting was called to arrange the association’s national elections which come up by the end of September, noted that taxes paid by his members, who mostly deal in used cars, popularly called Tokunbo, contribute a lot to national development.
Speaking on the need for car manufacturers to utilise the association’s services, he said “they should use us as agents or dealers for new vehicles. They are trying to bring people in to become their dealers.
“Toyota for instance, if they start manufacturing in Nigeria, they should use our members. We Tokunbo dealers want to be the dealers of Toyota and other companies. That is how we want to come in. However, we also encourage them to utilise the Ajaokuta Steel Complex.”
