NLC president wants UN to renew commitment against Ebola

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba,  has implored the United Nations Organisation (UNO) to inspire renewed commitment to research on the treatment, management and prevention of the spread of Ebola Virus Diseases (EVD) in the world.
He also called on African Heads of State to implement the 2010 Abuja Declaration, which recommended setting aside of 15 percent annual budgets for health in their respective countries.
Wabba, who gave the advice weekend in his address presented to the International Ebola Recovery Conference at the United Nations headquarters, New York, said the development is part of the measures to tame the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on the continent.
He said: “While funding support for the Ebola national responses would be welcomed, this is the right time to call on the governments of our countries to walk their talk by implementing the Abuja Declaration, now.’’
He also said the  training and re-training of health workers has to be given added fillip, while different regional and national bodies responsible for curricular development have to take due significance of recent developments such as the Ebola Virus Disease.
