The Osun State chapter of the Cocoa Association of Nigeria has commenced the distribution of fungicide and insecticide to cocoa farmers in the state.
A joint statement by Deputy Chairman of the association’s Board of Trustees, Bola Otunla and its Zonal Secretary Oyo/Osun zones, John Alalade, said the association ordered the procurement and the distribution of chemicals to cocoa farmers.
The statement noted that the initial consignment has arrived and that it has been distributed to the cocoa farmers while the distribution would continue till the end of the rainy season.
“We commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for his supports for the cocoa farmers in the state which enable us to match up with other cocoa growing states in the South-West, especially our competitor in Ondo State,” the statement read in part.
Some farmers, who spoke with Daily Trust in Osogbo, said they have received the insecticides, while some others said the gesture has not reached them.
