The Vice Chancellor of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof Faraday Orumwense, has commended the Daily Trust newspaper for providing a platform for students to practice journalism while in school.
He made the remark in his office while receiving students who used to regularly contribute to the campus roundup, Eddy Uwoghiren, 300-level, medicine and surgery, and Ezekiel Efeobhokhan, 400-level, pharmacy, who paid him a courtesy visit.
Campus Roundup is a page in the education section of Daily Trust newspaper dedicated to students of tertiary institutions to report campus-related stories.
The vice chancellor said: “With this platform, students will channel their energy into productive venture which will be of benefit to them in the future. The Daily Trust deserves commendation for this.”
Orumwense commended the students for reporting activities of the university in the newspaper, saying: “I am marveled at how far you have gone. I am also marveled at how you combine professional courses like medicine and pharmacy with the strenuous business of journalism. I strongly encourage you both to keep it up.”
Eddy Uwoghiren said the visit was to congratulate the vice chancellor on his recent appointment and intimate him of their activities as campus journalists.
He said that they were ready to contribute to the developmental agenda of the vice chancellor through regular reporting of activities of his administration.
