NBC tasks NSUK TV/FM on quality programming

The Abuja Zonal Director, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mrs. Franca Aiyetan, has charged the authorities of the television and radio studios of the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) to promote programmes that would ennoble the society and educate the students.
 Aiyetan, who gave the advice when inspecting the newly-built facilities of the institution, urged the students to abide by the ethics of broadcasting and avoid the common practices of some stations which she described as “broadcrashing.”
The director enjoined the management to collaborate with other sister departments in programme production and equipment management.
The director said that the station was not established for profit making or commercial purpose, adding: “The station should be financed from subvention of the university management or the state government. You can also get donations from individuals but you cannot compete for adverts with commercial broadcasters. This station is purely for educational purpose.”
Similarly, Asukwo Unuyu, Legal Adviser/Secretary of the Abuja Zonal Office of NBC, said the operators of the station must not deviate from the provision of broadcasting code and other relevant laws to avoid sanctions from the commission.
Dr. Tonnie Iredia, the Head of Department of Mass communication, NSUK, said that broadcasting ethics would be observed, adding that experienced media personnel have been engaged to guide the students.
Iredia said: “The department’s curriculum and courses are in line with the broadcasting code and the National Universities Commission’s requirements.”
