Kebbi State chief judge, Justice Ibrahim Bala Mairiga, yesterday released 21 prison inmates and granted bail to 13 detainees at the Birnin Kebbi Old Prison in an effort to decongest prisons in the state. The inmates were released unconditionally for lack of evidence and their cases were terminated by the Ministry of Justice.
Justice Mairiga said prisons should not be made a dumping ground, especially for  awaiting trail inmates.
“The inmates gained their freedom under the powers conferred on me by the criminal justice administration of Nigeria,” he said.
