The National President of Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Dr Abel Afolayan has urged the newly elected executives of the union in electricity sector to protect the welfare of their members in a transparent manner.  

Speaking during a special delegates conference to elect new executives, Afolayan also urged them to maintain unity among its members, noting that the previous executive was dissolved because they had little or no regards for law, constituted authority and the constitution of the union.

He said, “Before now, the Nigerian union of pensioners, electricity sector was led by leaders who had little or no regards for law, constituted authority and the constitution of our union.

“They chose to do things out of their own volition, ignoring several warnings and signals of impending doom ahead of the sojourn, refusing to be accountable to anybody. This is unacceptable to us and it has no place in the union constitution, the Trade union act as well as the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It was on the ground of this flagrant disobedience to constituted authority and other established anti-union activities that culminated to the suspension of the former leadership of the sector. 

“I therefore charge the new leadership to keep the flag flying, build on the successes recorded by the outgoing caretaker committee, make sure that there is a greater unity among all our members, bring everybody on board in other to achieve a common goal, ensure transparency and accountability in all your transactions. Desist from any act that can bring the good name of our union into disrepute.”

The newly elected executive includes Idi Bawa Geidam as Chairman, Oladipo Jebutu – Deputy Chairman, Zachariah Usman – Treasurer and Theophilus Aborisade as Auditor.

Others are Benjamin Bodamisi – V/Chairman N/Central, Mustapha Bakare- V/Chairman N/East, Ileasu Babs – V/Chairman N/West, Izekwe J. Ikena- V/Chairman S/East, Monday A Adodo- V/Chairman S/South, Ayola Bashorun – V/Chairman S/West, among others.
