The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said it has extended it’s 14 days warning notice which it earlier gave to multi-national oil companies operating in the country by seven day.

NUPENG, had on November 15,  issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice, accusing Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL,  Nigeria Agip Oil Company, NAOC, National Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, among others, of unfair Labour practices including an indiscriminate sack of members without payment of their benefits.

A statement issued by NUPENG General Secretary, Afolabi Olawake, said the decision to extend the warning notice follows the various interventions and engagements with government agencies and institutions, most especially the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the 14 days ultimatum issued by the Union.

Olawale said the leadership of the Nigeria Union of NUPENG graciously decided to extend the 14-day ultimatum given to the federal government which is expected to terminate on Monday, November 29, by 7 days from the initial terminal date of Monday, November 29, 2021.

He said the leadership of the Union is still exercising further patience and restraint to give the ongoing discussions the chances of resolving these issues once and for all.

According to him, the decision of the Union to give another seven-day ultimatum should not be misconstrued as a sign of capitulation or weakness but a concrete demonstration of the union’s resolve not to inflict unnecessary pains on Nigerians or create any form of artificial scarcity of Petroleum Products
