The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has given the federal government a 14-day ultimatum to compel management of multinational oil companies to pay up benefits of its members or it would shut down oil facilities.

A statement jointly signed by its National President and Secretary General, Comrade Williams Akporeha and Comrade Olawake Afolabi, NUPENG threatened to stop operation if the issues are not resolved within the next 14 days which started Monday.
Some of the issues include outstanding short payment of terminal benefits to members declared redundant in 2012 by management of Chevron Nigeria Limited; Chevron management also terminated the employment of contract workers in MUYIDEEN (Labour Contractor) and YKISH (Labour Contractor) because these workers consented to join the union after 10 to 20 years, without terminal benefits.
That PYRAMIDT workers, who for over 20 years are being moved from one Labour Contractor to another without conditions of service and Union representation/recognition. NUPENG said the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment had asked the contractor to allow the workers to belong to the union.
“Contract workers working in OML 42 of NPDC are being continuously owed salaries and allowances for upwards of eight to 10 months,” it further noted.
