 Chairman Nigeria Union of the Teachers, Lagos State Wing, Mr Segun Raheem, on Thursday urged the Federal Government to establish a special tribunal to prosecute unregistered teachers.

Raheem told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that such special tribunal would fast track judgment and sanction against quacks.

According to him, anybody teaching without a licence is like someone driving without a driver’s licence.

“It is against the TRCN law to teach without a licence in Nigeria.

“Anybody caught should be sent to the special tribunal because of the sensitivity of the offence.

“I propose a special teachers’ tribunal for quick dispensation of justice since the TRCN tribunal appears not to be fast enough,” he said.

Raheem decried the activities of many low income private school owners that employed unregistered teachers in the state.

He said the unqualified teachers were destroying the nation’s educational system and the future of Nigerian children through their actions.
