The National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Michael Olukoya, has said government should stop paying lip service to the issue of reintroduction of history as a compulsory subject in schools. Olukoya said in Abuja that government must ensure that history is reintroduced as earlier planned.   He said there was need for the curriculum in secondary schools to be modified and that history must not be substituted with social studies or civic education.

“What we need is commitment from our government. They should know it is time that education is reshuffled and there is nothing stopping curriculum developers across the 36 states and FCT from meeting to put the subject back in place,” he said.
