Tell us about restorative and complementary medicine
Restorative and complementary medicine basically focuses on how the body functions. Usually, the body becomes weak when we are struck with a disease or infection. This happens as a result a breakdown in the functioning of the different organs in the body and as such, the body is not able to fight these infections. Therefore, it is important to provide adequate nutrients which will enable all components of the human body to function properly. For instance, the brain is a very complex organ. It needs Omega, amino acid, proteins, certain vitamins and water.
Nutraceuticals are simply a combination of nutrients that help the body repair itself. Nutraceuticals are the building blocks that help the body work better. It takes time and took me 10 years to find out all these. I am partnering with scientists that are doing this and I am now bringing them into the country and tell people how to use it.
Where and how did you study this form of medicine?
I studied in the USA for 10 years. There are different research centres and organisations that train individuals but there is no specific university that specialises in it. I studied in one of the research centres.
Where are the nutraceuticals produced?
They are produced mainly in the USA. For now, I bring everything from the USA because that is where it is tested and where the researches were carried out. We have specific brands that work better than others.
Do you focus mainly on children?
Although we have some programmes focused on children, we focus also on adults with stroke, heart diseases, hypertension cases whereby the patients have used four to five medications and there are no results. Our main focus however is brain repair.
What are the nutraceuticals made of and what was your discovery?
For the brain, it has been discovered that omega, protein, and amino acid are very effective in the repair of damaged tissues in the brain and so these are major components of nutritional supplements used specifically for the treatment of brain injuries.
This approach has been replicated for all other organs which we focus on. We understand causes and identify what works best in such conditions.
What is the recovery rate?
At BBF, we get results but we have not treated any patient long enough to get 100 percent recovery because some patients cannot afford it. However, there are some testimonials.
For instance, we have the case of a client (Aisha) who had taken her daughter to a top hospital in the USA. She came to us, within a week, and was given one of the nutraceutical and there is improvement. She said it worked like magic.
There is also the case of a child that was not able to speak at all but can now speak, and the child that could not hear but can hear clearly now. These are children between 14 to 15 years of age, whose parents had done everything they felt they could but with little or no improvement. With nutraceuticals they are getting results.
How do you discover what is wrong before you administer anything to your patients?
A lot of them are referred to us by medical doctors and physiotherapists. Many of them have already done scan and we already know what to do. We make do with whatever information they present to us because those that refer them are professionals. If a person has done MRI or scan, it will be wicked of us to do another one just because we want to confirm the result.
How do you determine there is improvement?
First of all, there are not really any tests; it is all subject to what you see. There are cases where you see children that have damage to their brain and they have not been able to walk properly and some of them the part of the brain affected causes them to lose their balance making them to walk unaided only for few minutes. We have treated such and in few weeks they began to walk without falling.
As a conventional doctor, what motivates you to promote restorative and complementary health?
I am after result and solutions. There are some solutions I have been looking for and could not find in regular medicines. Just like the case of Aisha’s daughter, she had taken her to hospitals in Nigeria and the USA but she didn’t get the best results because the approach was not addressing the problem.
Do you see a market for this in Nigeria?
Definitely, because a lot of people take their children abroad for treatment, and those that can afford to take their children abroad for treatments can easily cut what they are spending if these remedies are available in Nigeria.
