Nwadioha’s howler saves Sunshine Stars from home defeat

Anthony Nwadioha’s own goal was Sunshine Stars’ saving grace as the ‘Akure gunners’ fought back to draw 2-2 with Plateau United in the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) week 29 match played yesterday in Ikenne.

Plateau United who have relegation worries of their own were running away with the maximum points before Nwadioha’s howler aborted their dream.

Vincent Temitope gave the north-central giants the lead in the 8th minute but 10 minutes later, Stephen Chukwude equalised for Sunshine Stars.

However, in the 30th minute, Sabbath Mancha restored Plateau United’s lead but when it appeared they would return to Jos with the crucial three points, disaster struck in the 67th minute when their defender mistakenly found the back of his net for United to share the spoils with Sunshine Stars.

The 2-2 draw didn’t help the precarious situation of the two clubs that are presently battling to escape relegation.

While Sunshine Stars are third from bottom with 33 points from 29 matches, Plateau United are 15th on the table with 35 having won 10, drawn 8 and lost 11 matches.

Meanwhile, after the 0-3 thrashing by Enugu Rangers in week 26, the management of Sunshine Stars gave its technical crew a three-match ultimatum which ended with yesterday’s match.

Out of the three matches, Sunshine Stars won one against Kwara United, drew 1-1 at Nasarawa United and 2-2 at home with Plateau
