Nwagua’s strike earns Rivers Utd win over 10-man Lobi Stars

Nyima Nwagua’s 15-minute strike was enough for Rivers United to seal all three points against 10-man Lobi Stars in the concluding round of Match Day 21 of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Former Lobi Stars striker Nyima Nwagua scored the game’s only goal when his well struck half volley from 20 yards nestled into the net.

The visitors were reduced to ten men at the nick of time when young attacker Ifeanyi Ogba was shown a straight red card after lashing out at Dennis Ndasi.

In the other games of the day, Wikki Tourists defeated visiting Sunshine Stars by a lone goal.

Wikki were in a dream land and went ahead through ex-CHAN Eagles star, Abubakar Aliyu’s goal from the spot in the 3rd minute and that was enough for maximum points as the Tourists moved to 6th position on 30 points.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars dropped to 7th position with 29 points.

In the last game, Plateau United defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes 1-0 to keep pressure on leaders Rivers United.

It was a tough game as both sides refused to concede while attempting to score but at the death, Andrew Ikefe ventured forward from the back to give the home side the lead.

He expertly connected Isah Aliyu’s pass to prod the ball home to give the 2017 champions all points.

The Peace Boys as they are called maintain their second position with 44 points while Niger Tornadoes are 16th with 23 points.
