Enoch Nwali from Ebonyi State has successfully defended his title in the master’s category at the 4th edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship, held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. Nwali, who also won last year’s third edition, secured 13 wins at the Chief Harold Dappa Biriye Conference Hall with a cumulative spread of +1229, earning him the winner’s trophy and a star prize of N750,000.
With this victory, Nwali becomes the first player to defend the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship title, a feat previously achieved by Oshevire Avwenagha of Delta State and Nsikak Etim of Akwa Ibom State in earlier editions.
In the competition’s other categories, Igali Precious from Bayelsa finished second in the master’s category with 12 wins and a cumulative spread of +140, taking home N450,000. Delta State’s Okiemute Tega claimed third place, also with 12 wins but a cumulative spread of +139, and received N330,000.
In the veteran category, Esan Dokun from Kogi State won with a cumulative spread of +1465 after 13 wins, dethroning last year’s champion, Ojior Osikhena, who finished second with +585.

In the open category, Bayelsa State’s Nimibo Theophilus took the top spot with +893, while Bright Uzu from Rivers State was second with +788. Bayelsa’s Enai Doubara won the intermediate category with +894, ahead of Oyo’s Kareem Jamiu, who had +1090.
In the secondary school category, Eddie Pereowei of Federal Government College, Odi, became the new champion, and Akpos Malafakumo won the female category.
