At least 30 people  injured in Thursday evening’s bomb blast are being treated for trauma at Asokoro Hospital, FCT officials said.

FCT health secretary, Ademola Onokamaiye, gave the tally late Thursday night, hours after a fresh bomb attack killed up to a dozen at Nyanya.

The incident occurred near the site of April 14 blast at a bus station. 

At least a dozen injured were put on stretchers and fitted with intravenous fluids in a triage area set up outside the hospital’s casualty unit.

Twenty more beds were freed up at three hospitals–Wuse, Gwarimpa and Maitama–to take in injured, said Onokamaiye.

FCT minister Bala Mohammed visited injured at the hospital hours after the incident and said the territory was working with emergency services to lessen “the intensity of impact” of such an attack.

Rescue teams from National Emergency Management Agency evacuated four bodies in bodybags from Asokoro.

Officials said at least 12 bodies have been deposited at National Hospital, some minutes drive from Asokoro.

The hospital is a major centre closest to the site of the blast and has been besieged by anxious families in search of their relatives caught in the blast.

For hours Asokoro barred entry to its premises, locking out families and journalists.

“We don’t need media here now. You can’t be here,” said an anxious Dr Ahmadu Abubakar, medical director at Asokoro Hospital.

A police officer standing sentry at the gates cited “security reasons.” Exact casualty figures are uncertain at present, said FCT officials.
