Dozens of Nigerians died today near Nyanya motor park in Abuja when a Gulf two car  said to be enroute the nation’s Capital City exploded inside traffic along the ever-busy Abuja-Keffi Expressway few minutes to 8pm.

The blast occurred on the main road beside the motor park where the first bomb blast happened over two weeks ago.

An eye witness who gave his name as Aliyu said he only saw himself near the gutter after the blast, adding that the impact of the blast threw him away into the wind.

The NEMA, police and military officers nearby immediately mobilize to the scene to rescue the injured while tens of corpses are being evacuated from the scene to several Abuja hospitals.

Several eye witnesses at the scene confirmed to Daily Trust that the FCT Fire Service arrived on time to put off the fire that ensued after the  blast.

Our reporter saw a NEMA ambulance and two police Hilux vehicle filled with dozens of corpses been evacuated from the scene, as several other ambulances from the FCT Hospital Management Board arrive the scene.

Civilians are greatly helping in the rescue operation while the military managed to control the crowd at the scene, Daily Trust reports.

When Daily Trust arrive the scene, the Gulf car  said to be conveying the explosive was burnt beyond recognition as vehicular movement was diverted to Nyanya-Karu-Jikwoyi axis.

Dozens killed, Dozens injured

 While the number of bodies deposited at Asokoro General Hospital is not known, Officials said at least 12 bodies have been deposited at National Hospital, some minutes drive from Asokoro.

At least a 12 injured were put on stretchers and fitted with intravenous fluids in a triage area set up outside the Asokoro general hospital’s casualty unit.
Rescue teams from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) evacuated four bodies in bodybags from Asokoro.

The hospital is a major centre closest to the site of the blast and has been besieged by anxious families in search of their relatives caught in the blast.

For hours Asokoro barred entry to its premises, locking out families and journalists.

“We don’t need media here now. You can’t be here,” said an anxious Dr Ahmadu Abubakar, medical director at Asokoro Hospital.

A police officer standing sentry at the gates cited “security reasons.” Exact casualty figures are uncertain at present.

 “Nine Killed”

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has said at least nine lifeless bodies have been deposited in the mortuary while several injured victims are receiving medical attention in different hospitals in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

In a statement signed by the Head, Public Relations of NSCDC, Emmanuel Okeh, it stated: “While security agencies have codoned off the area of the Nyanya explosion , Abuja, response agencies have moved injured victims to hospitals and at least Nine (9) lifeless bodies have been deposited in the mortuary while 11 unconscious victims are
receiving medical attention in different hospitals in Abuja.”

“The public are urged to cooperate with security agencies and avoid rushing to the scene to guard against hampering the efforts of the various agencies working together to ensure public safety,” it read.
