Team Bayelsa’s Perfect Faye has emerged as the fastest teenager in Nigeria after clinching gold in the boy’s 100m final at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta state.

Faye, 15-year-old who put every step perfectly to win gold ahead of Emmanuel Akolo of Team Lagos and Delta’s Peter Onoriode with a time of 11.11 seconds, said the feat is as a result of commitment and efforts by his coach.

The victory has set the tone for a mouth-watering contest in the 200 meters with Akolo a long-time rival dating back to when they both represented Team Nigeria at the African School Games in Algeria.

Also in the male 35kg Judo category, Emmanuel Sunday fought brilliantly to deliver another gold for Team Bayelsa, while in Kungfu, Epowede Magnate Bolou-Yei who showcased skill and determination could only settle for silver with Precious John carting home the bronze medal in golf.

In other events held yesterday, athletes from Team Kwara and Anambra started their quest for glory in the scrabble event with excellent performance with the Kwara girls team taking the event in style, recording eight straight wins and cumulative points of plus 2394.

Young Hadiyah from the Olojoku scrabble dynasty was unbeaten in the team event.

Anambra got silver with 6 wins while Bayelsa led by Africa’s number 6 U-15 player, Elaine Igbe, secured the bronze medal due to a higher cumulative points of plus 696 while Team Delta had 357 points from the same number of wins – 5.

In Chess, Team Bayelsa also amassed more points to strengthen their tally in board games, while the male Basketball team booked their place in the semifinals after outclassing Team Kano 12-7.

However, their female counterparts were not lucky as they lost 8-7 to Team Kano.
