National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), says it will deploy no fewer than 1,777 Corps members to schools across Sokoto State.

The Sokoto State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Thomas Yamma, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday that this would complement the state government efforts at improving the educational sector.

Yamma said ”The corps members to be deployed to the schools are part of the 2,221 deployed to the state under the Batch B, 2016.

“They are currently undergoing their three-week orientation exercise at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Wamakko.

”The gesture is also part of the scheme’s contribution to revamp the education sector, as well as other crucial sectors.”

Yamma said that adequate arrangements have been made for the security and comfort of the corps members, both during and after the orientation exercise.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has conferred the title of ”An Icon of Societal Transformation,” on Yamma.

At the ceremony, the Coordinator said that NYSC remains the only viable tool for unifying the country, adding, ‘‘those advocating for the scrapping of the scheme should have a rethink.”

He also advised NANS to ”eschew violence, never be used or manipulated by politicians and as future leaders, you should always use protest as the last resort to championing your cause.” (NAN)
