Governing Board of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) has conducted facility inspection tour of the orientation camp in Sokoto describing it as one of the best camps in the country.

This is just as it described Sokoto as  unique in terms of adequate care being given  to the Corps members deployed to the state.

“I am quite impressed with condition of Sokoto orientation camp as it is one of the best camps in the country. Hostels are not congested, environment is generally clean while activities are moving reasonably fine,” the Chairperson, Amb. Fatima Balla-Abubakar noted.

She disclosed that the inspection was part of board’s efforts to obtain direct information and interact with corps members and officials.

Balla-Abubakar urged corps members to utilize the opportunities of economic empowerment skill trainings in the camp, noting the benefit in preparing them to be self-reliant.

The Chairperson also acknowledged the support of Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar  to the scheme.

She noted that the royal father introduced annual prize award for corps members who distinguish themselves during the service year as well as donating cows to corps members during each orientation exercise.

Balla-Abubakar said the gestures served to motivate the corps members and making them feel at home in the community.

Similarly at Government House Sokoto during a courtesy call on Governor Aminu Tambuwal, she described Sokoto as a unique  in terms of taking adequate care of the NYSC members deployed to the state.

The Chairperson applauded the  state government for its support to corps members and the scheme. She commended the governor for increasing the corps members’ state allowance and ensuring its prompt payment monthly, as well as for the prompt renovation of females’ hostel razed by fire at the NYSC permanent orientation camp.

She, however, appealed to the state government to expand the lecture hall and repair the damaged roofs at the orientation camp in Wamakko.

She also appealed for the completion of the fencing  of the camp as well upgrading the clinic.

Balla-Abubakar also appealed   to the state government to consider providing the state NYSC Coordinator with a befitting accommodation.

Responding, Governor Aminu Tambuwal assured the chairman that host communities would continue to be good hosts to the corps members deployed to the state.

“Sokoto state government has been commended for its sustained support to the  corps members deployed to the state. We will continue to live up to the expectation by providing necessary support to ensure success of the scheme in recognition of its contribution to national integration,” he said.

The governor, who commended the state NYSC management for its strides, noted that the relationship between the state government and NYSC had always been robust and cordial.

The Governor however enjoined the corp members   to initiate viable community projects.

State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Philip Enaberue, disclosed that 2, 066 corps members are undergoing orientation exercise in the state.
