NYSC DG, others appointed chemical society’s board trustees

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, was one of those inaugurated recently as members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).

Kazaure would be representing North West  zone. Other members include Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, representing North Central Zone, Mr Abiola Ogunrinde, representing Lagos Zone, Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, representing North East Zone,  and Dr Frank Udemba Jacobs, representing South East zone.

Dr Franklin Osaisai represents South-South zone, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, represents South West zone, and Dr. Habiba Muda Lawal, represents the Federal Capital Territory zone (FCT).

President of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Prof. Gloria Ukalina Obuzor, said chemistry was central to sustainable national development, adding that the society was focused on raising national consciousness on the centrality of chemistry to man and national development.

A member of the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees (BoT) representing FCT zone, Dr. Habiba Muda Lawal, said poor funding for the teaching of science, technology and innovation in Nigerian universities, and the non- engagement of professionals in their rightful area of capacity and competence have been identified as major challenges  facing science and technology in Nigeria.
