The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has kicked-off a one-week free medical outreach for  rural dwellers in Anambra under the NYSC-Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (NYSC-HIRD).
Speaking at Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, the state’s NYSC Coordinator , Mrs Robinca Odigwe, said the scheme hopes to reach out to 3,000 rural dwellers.
She said that corps medical volunteers were mobilised for the provision of health intervention through diagnosis, treatment, referrals and proper prevention mechanism.
Earlier, Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra, who flagged-off the programme, described it as “another good gesture from NYSC that touches the lives of the people.”
Represented by a Director in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Dr Greg Onugbolu, he said that the NYSC health-care approach will complement government’s effort in the sector.
President-General of Umueri community, Mr Chike Odili  said the NYSC scheme was one of the best initiatives introduced by the nation’s founding fathers.
