Team Ekiti State has emerged winner of the 2021 National Youth and Service Corps (NYSC) Sports competition after defeating Team Anambra by a lone goal after a tense final.
Team Anambra had started the game brightly, recording more ball possessions but were punished for the prolificacy in front of goal as Team Ekiti scored the only goal of the game in the second half.
Team Rivers won the bronze medal after defeating Team Taraba.
In other sports, Team Federal Capital Territory (FCT) emerged winner of the female volleyball competition leaving Team Kogi as the second position and Team Ondo as the third position.
For the game of track events, Team FCT emerged winner for the 100 meters female race while Team Delta emerged second position leaving Team Kogi as third position.
Team Delta emerged first position in the 100 meters men’s race while Team Ogun emerged second position and Team Sokoto emerged third position.
For the 200 meters female race, Team FCT emerged winners, leaving Team Ebonyi at the second position and Team Taraba at the third position.
On the male 200 meters category, Team Anambra emerged first position, while Team Ogun emerged second position, leaving Team Akwa-ibom at the third position.
Speaking at the event, Special Adviser to the President on Sports development, Mr Daniel Amokachi noted that the players had qualities to become professional footballers if they choose to pursue a career in football.
Representing the Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director, ICT unit of the scheme, Mrs Christy Ubah was impressed with passion and efforts of all the team members at the various sports activities.
