The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has said corps members will be deployed to counselling and rehabilitation centres of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) nationwide.

This is contained in a statement signed by NYSC’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu.

The NYSC DG spoke when the Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd), visited him in Abuja to request the deployment of corps members to the centres across the country through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Marwa disclosed that such centres were already in existence in 30 states, with plans to establish seven more to ensure that the 36 States and the FCT had one each.

 According to him, those to be posted are corps members who studied guidance and counselling, psychology, nursing and psychiatry.

He said this will enable the corps members to acquire knowledge and experience in rehabilitation and psychosocial services.

On his part, Nafiu acknowledged that the NDLEA boss had made a lot of impact in the sector.

On the call for certified drug integrity test for prospective corps members by the NDLEA chairman, Nafiu, said it was a good idea, but pointed out that it was a policy matter, as such, the NYSC could not act on it, especially as the scheme’s enabling Act did not provide for such action.

He, however, said it would be implemented if it became a policy of the government.
