Peter made the disclosure during a tour of Media Trust regional office by the editorial board of Kano Kopers Voice, a monthly newsletter published by NYSC secretariat in Kano. He stated that cases of female corps members being raped at their places of primary assignments is on the increase.

“The issue of raping of female corps members has become rampant compared to the past. It is now on the rise. This is an issue that has to be dealt with through enlightening people at the community level and that is why we are here to partner with you and other media professionals.”

He added: “The female corps members are on national service and are our children and should be treated as such. They should for no reason be exposed to threat in their response to national call. Therefore, we are here to solicit your support in eliminating this menace.”

The state government through the deputy governor, Engineer Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, while addressing the 2009 Batch C corps members disclosed that the attention of the state government has been drawn from several quarters on the security of serving corps members in the state. He assured that the state government would continue to make the provision of security for lives and properties a priority.
