OAUTHC set for bone marrow transplant – CMD

Speaking in an interactive session with newsmen in his office, the CMD disclosed that his mission was “to raise the hospital to meet international standard so that instead of people travelling abroad for medical services, they would prefer coming to Ile-Ife.”
The CMD, who reiterated the designation of OAUTHC as one of the kidney care centres in Nigeria, expressed concern that many affluent Nigerians still embark on medical tourism to foreign countries such as Egypt, India, etc for kidney transplant despite the availability of such facilities at the hospital.
“The OAUTHC is not only leading in area of kidney transplant but I can say categorically that we have other areas of which this hospital has been leading as well”.
When the health minister visited us he was amazed to find that we have been doing Minimal Access Surgery in this hospital and appreciated the doctor for his hard work.
Speaking further, the CMD declared:  “Very soon, by the grace of God, we may have our first bone marrow transplantation.  Though, we are still working assiduously on this, in the next few months, God’s willing, it will be done.  At least that will boost the spectrum of services in this institution and that, of course, will provide more revenue to the hospital.
“All that is required presently is to ensure that we provide all the equipment required for the exercise.  We have just sent for the list of consumables needed to commence the new services”.
