The monarch gave this assurance when delegation of the state council, led by the chairman, Alhaji Wahab Alabi Oba paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Badagry on Wednesday.

The monarch who was overwhelmed by the initiative, noted that the project could be described as long overdue because of the location of the town and the socio-economic opportunities it has provided to the state in particular and to Nigeria in general.

According to Menu-Toye, “I am very pleased with this initiative and I want to assure you that it shall be given full support. It is long over due to have a radio or television station here in Badagry. We hardly enjoy the stations in Lagos because of the distance. We all know the contributions of this great town to the socio-economic development of not only Lagos state, but Nigeria as a whole. So having a radio station here will no doubt boost the information system here.”

The Akran added that when the technical committee of the project will visit, “they are going to get all the support needed, particularly, the location for the station and I want to also say that it will involve all the sons and daughters of Badagry because that will be our own station.” The monarch, a veteran journalist, commended the NUJ, Lagos state council for the initiative, stressing that it further shows the quality of the council’s leadership.

The Lagos state council chairman had earlier intimated the monarch about the project, noting that the council has carefully observed that the area needed such an important medium of disseminating information to the people. “It will serve the people of Badagry and environs. It will afford the people of Badagry the opportunity to be heard locally and globally. It will essentially be a community-based radio station.”

Oba hinted that “soon, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) will be approached to get the necessary approval for the take-off. But, I can assure your Majesty that the establishment of that radio station has come to stay in Badagry. We have only come to formally intimate you and get your royal blessing.”

The council chairman thanked the monarch for the tremendous support he has always given to the union.”
