According to a statement signed by Mrs. Halima Oyelade from the Film Festival Secretariat, the awardees will be honoured for their notable contributions to the growth of the Nigerian film.
Oba Dosunmu will be honoured for his scriptwriting and production work on television and film; and Haynes for schorlarly work on the Nigerian motion picture industry; while Manrique is being appreciated for the organisation of film festivals dedicated to the projection of the works of African filmmakers, domestic and in the diasporas;
According to Oyelade, Head, Film Festival Unit, the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), and Head of ZUMA Film Festival Secretariat, the objective of the Life Time Achievement Awards, is to recognise, appreciate and celebrate the untiring efforts of veterans and others, who are contributing immensely towards the growth of the Nigerian motion picture industry.
OBA Dosunmu, the statement reads, “is one of Nigeria’s foremost television and filmmakers. He is famous for directing several episodes of the Village Headmaster, and Dinner with the Devil, feature film.”
Presently, a traditional ruler in Ogun State, the monarch has diverse successful working experiences that span through both public service and private entrepreneurship. In 1962, he enrolled for a course in Drama and Television Production at Hendon College of Technology, London.
Then as Prince Dosunmu, he worked with Dennis Duerden Theatre Agency, and became the only African and Nigerian to direct two popular stage plays before large audiences at the Hampstead and the English Stage Company at Sloane Square, London.
At the Nigeria Broadcasting Service (NBS), Prince Dosumu was responsible for the establishment of Drama, Art and Cultural Productions for Television in Nigeria. His innovativeness and creativity led to the evolution of Television Drama Production, and within four months of his assumption of duty at the NBS, he began to record the first 13 episodes of The Village Headmaster as its producer, writer and director for many years. The Village Headmaster is on record the most popular and longest running TV series of over 20 years.
He established Starline Film Limited from where he wrote and directed several films including Dinner with the Devil as his first feature and others, including Eye of Life written and produced by Francis Oladele – a renowned pioneer of the film industry in the country.
