Obasanjo,  a former PDP Board of Trustees chairman, said after meeting with Governors Goodswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Liyel Imoke of Cross River,  Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi,  that he was able to engage his visitors on discussions on the state of the nation.
He said though they were not out to cast aspersion on anyone, they oberved that the situation of things had going really bad in the country but not irritrievably bad as certain things could still be rectified. Obsanjo said the governors out  of honour and respect for him, came to consult with him as they would with other leaders in a short time to come.
He said the crisis in the PDP would not be solved through the back-door, which he described as the “NADECO” approach.
According to him, the party should consult widely to find lasting solutions to the problem which he said is a source of concern to every party member. On the state of the nation, Obasanjo who said though the situation does not scare him, added: “It gives serious concern and with the rainy days steering us in the face, we have to let the nation know. You don’t need an expert to say that our economy is not what it is supposed to be”.
The governors of Akwa Ibom and Niger said they went to meet the former president as leader and father of the nation, on national issues which transcended partisanship. The meeting, which lasted about three hours, was held in Obasanjo’s country home in Abeokuta.
