Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has mentored some African youths on leadership and how to contribute to the green economy by combating the climate change challenges.

The youths were drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as well as Kenya, Mali, Guinea, Liberia and Ghana, 

The three-day Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat (4.0.) organised by the Youth Development Centre, an arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).

In his remarks, Obasanjo challenged them to lead a battle against climate change in their respective communities. 

He blamed humans for the climate change which he said has resulted into flooding, extreme droughts, deforestation, pollution among others.

“These are the areas as youth where you must take leadership, these are the areas you can make your contribution to the green economy and help reduce drastically the challenge of climate change,” he said.

The CEO of Providus Bank, Walter Apani, who was a guest speaker, urged youths to be disciplined and take advantage of opportunities ahead of them.

Programmes Manager, YDC-OOPL, Ms Kehinde Blessing Omolara, disclosed that about 60 participants who attended were picked out of 972 applications, based on their age, location and their contributions in their community.
