The First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, business mogul, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu are among prominent Nigerians who are to receive Sports Philanthropists’ Awards at an awards night billed to hold tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The event is being organized by the Nigerian Society for the Promotion of Sports in conjunction with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Society for the promotion of Sports, Vincent Michael, said the Awards night is to recognize and honour some well-meaning Nigerians who have over the years used their hard-earned resources to invest in sports development.
Michael said the aforementioned reputable organisations decided to come together to birth the Award given their experiences and vast knowledge of the with development and promotion of sports in the country.

According to him, awards would be given to deserving Nigerians in different categories like the Best Performing Governors in the development of sports; the Best Sports Developing Deputy Governors as well as the Best Performing Sports Administrators.
As stated earlier, notable Nigerians including the First Lady of Edo state, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare and the President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Gumel are all slated to be honoured.
Also, foremost industrialist, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who has since confirmed his attendance, leads the award recipients from the organised private sector.
It will be recalled that the Imo State born sports enthusiast single handedly sponsored Iwuanyawu Nationale, the formidable football club that took the African football scene by storm in the 90s.
