The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated the Super Eagles on their 1-0 victory against the host nation, Ivory Coast in their second AFCON match.
In a statement, Obaseki said, “I heartily congratulate Super Eagles of Nigeria for their well-deserved victory over Ivory Coast.
“They showed they were a superior team, showcasing their exceptional talent, skills and resilience, leading to the 1-0 victory.
“As they progress in the competition, I charge them to continue on their impressive run so they can place Nigeria on the continental map for good.”

In the same vein, a former member of the House of Representatives from Plateau State, Hon. Lumumba Dah Adeh, also congratulated the three-time African champions on the victory over Cote D’Ivoire.
Speaking to Daily Trust immediately after the match, the former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presidential aspirant observed that the Super Eagles won because they changed their poor attitude to national assignment.
He said the Eagles failed to soar over the National Thunder of Equatorial Guinea in their first match because they exhibited the lackadaisical behaviour they are known for.
“I join other Nigerians in congratulating the Super Eagles. They deserve their win against Cote D’Ivoire. It is obvious that the victory was as a result of the change in the attitude of the players.
“Apart from that, they were good technically. They were well organised and that made it possible for them to win the crunch fixture,” he noted.
Lumumba, therefore, said to go far in the competition, the Super Eagles must maintain the good attitude they exhibited against Ivory Coast.
“They shouldn’t go back to their old ways. If they play their remaining matches with the seriousness they showed against Cote D’Ivoire, they will surely go far,” he reiterated.
The Super Eagles will play their final group match against Guinea Bissau on Monday, January 22.
