The Labour Party (LP) has said its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, did not travel abroad to beg for funds but to market Nigeria to the world.

Obi has come under criticism for allegedly soliciting funds abroad ahead of the 2023 presidential election. Some groups have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify him from the race.

However, the national publicity secretary of the party, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, said Obi was on a mission to rescue Nigeria.

“He went to market Nigeria to the world in order to attract foreign direct investment that will increase the productive economic base of our country from a consumption nation to a productive one, which will ultimately strengthen the values of the naira due to exportation,” he said.

Meanwhile, a group of 11,000 doctors and 27,000 medics, under the auspices of doctors and medics for Peter Obi, has pledged to canvas and deliver 25 million votes to the LP in the forthcoming elections.

The convener, Docs and Medics, Dr. Uche Uzoukwu, said this on Monday in Abuja during a presentation of working tools by three support groups for the Peter Obi campaign.

According to him, at the local government level, a total of 500,000 medics had been reached out to, to encourage the people and get in touch with 50 persons each.
