Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the last election, Mr Peter Obi and leaders from the South East yesterday met with former president, Goodluck Jonathan in what was confirmed to be in connection with the 2027 general elections.

The meeting which took place behind closed doors was held in Jonathan’s House in Abuja on Monday evening.

The South East leaders present included former Enugu State governor, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo; former Imo State governor, Achike Udenwa, former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Senator Victor Umeh among others.

Obi has already indicated interest to contest the 2027 Presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Peter Obi who spoke for the South East leaders said the meeting was for consultation with the former President on the 2027 general elections.

He said Jonathan is now in the company of former Presidents like Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida and others, adding that he was not in Jonathan’s place for endorsement but consultation.

He said, “He wished that we have a free, fair, credible election. That would be his wish. There can’t be one party system. He cannot support such thing. Nobody can claim to be more of a democrat in this country. In terms of those who have led this country without putting him (Jonathan) as number one.”

Obi further said, “We, some notable South East leaders have come in consultation to our respected former President Goodluck Jonathan, That’s basically what it is. It is on 2027 elections and it is all about Nigeria.
