Ochepke said at a meeting with six universities vice chancellors participating in the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network operated by the National Water Resurces Institute that Nigeria was in dire need of experts on water resources management.
She said that research from the universities should be able to influence government policies and programme but regretted that such was not the case now.
She noted that water was crucial to human survival, hence the need for increased knowledge so as to research into its uses and management.
“We have high expectations from the network and we are also desirous that the network will spur the training of PHD students in eco-hydrology and other aspect of water management.
Earlier, Dr Olusanjo Bamgboye, Executive Director, NWRI said that the network was been operated courtesy of a N12 million seed grant to the six universities to strengthen institutions and human capacity for the implementation of an integrated water resources management plan for Nigeria.
