Residents of Kano have ignored the ongoing nationwide protest as they went about their daily activities without disruption.

The October 1, 2024, protest, tagged “FearlessInOctober”, was propagated on social media, some two months after the August #EndBadGovernance protests.

The two demonstrations are synonymous in themes as aggrieved young people demand a reversal of petrol subsidy removal and electricity tariff increase.

Observing the situation in Kano, our correspondent reports that while the day has been slated for a public holiday, many have chosen to stay indoors.

However, others have gone to observe their day-to-day businesses.

Major roads are a bit quiet with no heavy disturbing traffic, while shops and other petty businesses are opened.

A quick check at the major markets like Kwari, Sabon Gari, Singer and Kurmi showed that majority of businesses are also open with few closed.

As at the time of filing this report, there was no information on protest taking place anywhere in the state.
