The National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS) has called for sustained support for the Dangote Refinery, describing it as a national asset with the potential to transform Nigeria’s economy.

NAOS emphasized that the refinery stands as one of the largest private sector investments in Africa, designed to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on fuel importation, create jobs, and boost industrialization. The Association said such a monumental project should be celebrated and supported as a beacon of hope for national development.

As the umbrella body for Yoruba students and illustrious sons and daughters of Yorubaland, NAOS noted that it is particularly significant that the refinery is located in Yorubaland. The Association described it as a priceless asset to the Yoruba nation, a blessing to Nigeria, and a landmark achievement for the African continent.

In a statement issued by its President, Amb. Olalere Benedict Adetunji, NAOS urged the Federal Government and other stakeholders to ensure that the project continues to receive the necessary backing to succeed. “The Dangote Refinery represents more than business; it is a national lifeline,” Adetunji said. “For decades, Nigeria has been trapped in fuel importation and economic dependency. This refinery is a bold step towards breaking that chain.”

The Association further called on eminent royal fathers across Yorubaland, including the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba of Lagos, Alake of Egbaland, Owa Obokun of Ijesha Kingdom, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Deji of Akure, and other notable traditional rulers, to lend their voices in support of the refinery.

Beyond cultural leaders, NAOS also appealed to stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to unite in support of the refinery. According to the student movement, supporting the vision of Alhaji Aliko Dangote is about securing Nigeria’s economic future and strengthening its industrial foundation.

NAOS called on all Nigerians — youths, policymakers, traditional rulers, and civil society — to rally behind the Dangote Refinery as a project of pride, unity, and national survival. The Association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting indigenous enterprises that carry the vision of economic growth and national progress.
