Indigenes of Agbaji community, the ancestral home of former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has held special prayers seeking divine intervention in the ongoing legal issues surrounding the 2018 Offa bank robbery case.
The prayer session, held at the Agbaji Central Mosque in Ilorin, lasted over an hour and was led by the Chief Imam, Imam Abubakar Hakeebu, alongside other Islamic clerics from the community.
The gathering was followed by a press conference addressed by the Agbaji Development Association (ADA), where the group called for calm and urged political actors to desist from actions capable of escalating tensions in the Ilorin Emirate.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Mallam Muhammad Ghali Jamiu expressed concern over what he described as rising political hostilities and alleged coordinated attacks targeting the former Senate President and his family.
The association said it was alarmed by what it termed “a sustained smear campaign” and called for restraint from all sides involved in the matter.
“What is unfolding is no longer about justice, but a calculated political campaign driven by propaganda,” the group said.
ADA alleged that individuals within the political circle of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, were using various platforms and influence to tarnish the image of the Saraki family.
It described the development as “provocative and dangerous,” warning that continued escalation could threaten the peace of the Ilorin Emirate.
The group stressed that the Saraki family had played a significant role in the political and developmental history of Kwara State, insisting that any attempt to distort that history would be resisted.
It further cautioned that residents of Ilorin were closely monitoring the situation, warning against actions that could trigger public backlash.
The association also appealed to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to intervene and ensure all parties exercise restraint in the interest of peace and unity.
ADA urged the Council of Ulama to intensify prayers for the Emirate, stressing the need for spiritual intervention amid growing tensions.
It warned that “enough is enough,” insisting that Ilorin must not be turned into a theatre of political conflict.
“Ilorin Emirate remains a land of honour, not a theatre for intimidation and political propaganda,” the association declared.
