The Ogun West Initiative (OWI), a sociopolitical advocacy group based in Ogun State, on Tuesday, alleged that some forces formed a coalition with the sole aim of stopping the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi’s) ambition in the next governorship election.

Although, Adeola who’s the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, the group warned political opponents to desist from underhanded attacks and intimidation tactics ahead of the race.

The group declared that “anti-Yayi forces will fail woefully” in any attempt to derail the senator’s rising political profile.

Speaking during at a media parley held on Tuesday, in Abeokuta, the convener of the group, Olootu Bolaji Adeniji, lauded the achievements of Senator Adeola, describing him as a symbol of transformational leadership whose performance has redefined politics and governance in Ogun West.

He added that the overwhelming support for Yayi is organic, uncoerced, and rooted in gratitude for his service.

Adeniji described this level of activity as unprecedented and indicative of a leader committed to real development.

While Senator Adeola has yet to make a formal declaration to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, Adeniji revealed that public demand for his candidacy is deafening.

He said that the clamour for Yayi’s governorship bid cuts across party lines and all three senatorial districts in the state.

“Never in our political history have we seen such simultaneous celebrations for a leader. It’s a sign,” Adeniji added.

However, the OWI convener expressed concern over what he described as the growing desperation of political opponents, both within and outside the All Progressives Congress (APC), to derail Yayi’s momentum.

According to him, these elements have begun launching sponsored attacks and campaigns of calumny in the media.

“These opponents, frightened by Yayi’s towering profile, have resorted to a strategy of character assassination because they know they cannot defeat him in a free and fair election.

“Rather than sell their candidate with ideas and achievements, they’ve shamefully formed a coalition with the sole aim of stopping Yayi,” he said.

He warned that such tactics were not only regressive but also insulting to the political sophistication of Ogun people, urging all aspirants to run issue-based campaigns.

“The politics of bitterness, blackmail, and backroom conspiracies must end,” he insisted.
